It was a productive and sociable morning last Saturday when six volunteers turned up to our second Verge Garden planting day.
Our demonstration verge gardens are a good way to promote Noosa Council’s Encroachment Policy and show other residents what can be done to increase urban greening and biodiversity on public land at the front of every property.
Veronica had worked hard to rid the area of buffalo grass beforehand. On the day holes were dug and watered, compost and soaked water crystals added, and tubestock planted, fertilised and watered, before the whole area was mulched. It was an efficient production line that saw us finished in a couple of hours.
Veronica is keen to see what birds, insects and other wildlife will be visiting her verge as the garden grows. She provided a wonderful morning tea and we were able to relax and chat after the busy morning.
Thanks to Adrian, Sarah, Shayan, Paul and Shaun for their help on the day. Shaun also worked with Veronica to design the garden in accordance with council specifications, and do site visits.
Thanks to Noosa Council and Shayan Barmand for helping to facilitate the project.
