Urban Wildlife Gardens recently partnered with Lake Macdonald Catchment Creekcare, through Noosa District Landcare, to deliver a workshop on ‘Beautify your Bush’. The workshop was held on a spectacular hinterland property on the slopes of Mt Cooroy. It drew upon the principles of the English Landscape Movement, particularly Capability Brown, to create picturesque, romantic and sustainable landscapes that seek to marry the competing pressures of restoring nature while also wanting to achieve beautiful or at least bucolic landscapes.

The workshop provided an interesting framework to assist in designing rural landscapes and covered:

  • the concept of ‘picturesque’ in the landscape
  • drama and romance in the landscape
  • waterways and waterbodies
  • practical landscape execution and maintenance

The workshop notes are available to download here if any Urban Wildlife Gardeners are interested in applying the principles of the English Landscape Movement to their urban gardens.
