Last month Phil Moran delivered a fascinating and enlightening talk to both novices and those more informed about our local geology.

We learnt about soil profiles and how parent rock determines the type of soil. He talked about volcanic rock and how some of the prominent peaks such as the Glasshouse Mountains and Mt Coolum were formed. Phil brought along specimens, one being a Chalcedony Rock which proved such a beautiful sight when perched on his torch lit phone.

Phil has very kindly provided us with his PowerPoint which you can access for all the information Geology for NICA Presentation.

Information in the presentation is based on the book ‘Geology of the Sunshine Coast’ by Warwick Willmott.

From all of us at UWG, and appreciative Workshop participants, we very much thank you Phil for the informative and interesting workshop.
