The UWG subcommittee would like to congratulate our member Gene Young for being a finalist in the Environmental Steward Award (Under 30). This category, sponsored by UniSC, is for outstanding contribution to the Noosa Biosphere environment by an individual.

Gene was runner up, an incredible achievement that reflects his passion for sustainable living and environmental stewardship. He is a wonderful example of how young people can value and work toward looking after our environment.

Gene describes his work in this way: ‘There are many incredible ways we can choose to live, and living within the Noosa Biosphere provides me with every reason to tread lightly, watch, listen, learn and share. I educate myself by attending local Noosa Events and meetings, and volunteer as the youngest Slow Food Noosa committee member. And I continue to bring awareness to our vulnerable eastern ground parrot through my painting that is now a poster and a reminder of our precious Biosphere. At school I am a year 6 environmental leader and, in the KIA (Kids in Action program). I can show others how they too can make a big difference by showing up, helping, learning and sharing knowledge.’ Gene Young.

Warmest congratulations on your award Gene.
