I have just come across ‘Noosa Coast – Coastal Custodians’ Guide Book’ by Rochelle Gooch and Sharyn Kerrigan and suggest it is well worth obtaining a copy.

It is beautifully put together with some great photography and information on the Noosa Coastline.

Each subject is complemented with a QR code to entail further reading.

It is aimed at locals and visitors and in the ‘Welcome’ it reads: ‘ We hope this Guide Book will equip you with local knowledge and provide a deeper understanding of the values and treasures of our local coastal community, which we share with Nature.’

The guidebook encourages a simple but deeper understanding of our coastal environments and conveys the message that if we come to understand it we will appreciate what we have and will wish to protect it.

The book explores different aspects of our coastal beaches, fragile dunes and coastal vegetation.

It encourages us to respect our coastal dunes simply by staying off them. Native wildlife is featured and you can read about the struggle of turtles to procreate, migratory whales and birdlife.

There is also a page dedicated to the original custodians, the Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) who can help us better connect with country and its ecosystems.

It is an excellent coffee table guidebook that will hopefully encourage people to adopt and foster responsible behaviour on our beaches and coastline.

It is available for sale from Noosa Integrated Catchment Association (NICA), Noosa Landcare and Annie’s Bookshop Peregian.
