Our second Community workshop in partnership with Noosa Council was held at the J this month.

The two sessions were fully booked and the residents who turned up were enthusiastic and keen to find out how to turn their coastal gardens into havens for native wildlife.

Melissa Coyle (Noosa Council’s Environment Officer for Coastal Management) organized the event. She was supported by Paul Sprecher (Conservation Partnerships and Offsets Officer) and Michael Lyons (Coordinator Environmental Operations) who shared information about land management in urban gardens, local native plant species to plant for coastal gardens and local wildlife. Michael also helped attendees choose the right free plants for their gardens.

Keron, Kay and I spoke to people about the Urban Wildlife Garden Program and provided them with free resources and information about how to attract local wildlife to their gardens.

We were supported by our expert volunteers Ryan Heeney, Robert Price and Phil Moran who kindly shared their extensive knowledge with residents. They helped identify, and provided information about how to control and manage potential weeds and replace them with natives. They talked about local coastal plants that feed and shelter wildlife and other things people can do in their urban gardens to encourage wildlife visitors.

Thank you to Melissa and all the volunteers who helped on the day and the attendees who were keen to make their gardens into wildlife havens.
