This vine can climb but is more likely to be found trailing along the ground. It’s also happy to grow in pots in a small shrub shape if regularly pruned.
Recently it has been planted in the roundabout along Butler Street in Tewantin. The purple and white flowers, which grow on separate plants, look very attractive together. Hardenbergia grows across the Noosa Shire in most ecosystems. It’s a food source for bees and other insects.
Cultivars can be bought from big nurseries, but the leaf shape is slightly different compared to the type found in the bush or the native plant nurseries.
Another winter flowering native is Yellow Buttons, Chrysocephalum apiculatum. The purple and yellow flowers look lovely together and will brighten up any garden during the winter months.
