The Urban Wildlife Gardens (UWG) program continued its bi-monthly workshops on Saturday 9th October in the Cooran Garden of Jan Cole.
Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens
Members of UWG visited the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens earlier this month and the weather was perfect for walking and photography. The Gardens looked good, and displays and a coffee van added to the attractions. Click on the link to read the update and see more photos on our website.
OCTOBER WORKSHOP – Insects and a Garden
Sunshine Butterflies provided a stunning backdrop for our October workshop. CEO Leanne and husband Damien Walsh welcomed us as we road-tested their brand new Information Building with paving finished the day before for our convenience. Guest Presenter Joel Fostin told us about his work with the Pandanus Beetle and its parasitising wasp, touching briefly on insects generally before we were treated to a tour of the Sunshine Butterflies gardens. Propagation Workshop Review
Urban Wildlife Garden members were treated to a highly informative propagation workshop in the sublime propagation shed of knowledgeable presenter Robert Price in Old Tewantin. In this post, Dalia Mikhail explains how Robert’s detailed explanations showed members how to successfully propagate a range of native species, preparing the best soil mix and how to identify and treat differing seed pods of our local region.
Landscaping Workshop Report
Tony Haslam reflects on the landscape workshop delivered by prominent Landscape Architect Shaun Walsh which was an engaging day that suggested different ways of looking at the design inputs and influences that could be incorporated into urban wildlife gardens. The breadth of Shaun’s knowledge and his willingness to share his expertise was heartily appreciated by all who took part. Read more about the day in this post.
Urban Wildlife Gardens’ first get-together was a WALK IN THE PARK
Storms and showers had been a challenge for organisers, but Saturday February 15th dawned fine and sunny with more than 20 people joining us for morning tea and a walk in Heritage Park. Many thanks to Joan Heavey for showing us around the park and even allowing our guests a glimpse of her own garden.
