It was a productive and sociable morning last Saturday when six volunteers turned up to our second Verge Garden planting day.
Our Verge Garden Workshop, in partnership with Noosa and District Landcare, was well attended and the fine weather contributed to an enjoyable morning. It was held at the beautiful Station Place Native Garden next to the Landcare HinterHub in Pomona and attendees were able to see examples of many of the plants recommended for verges.
This workshop will take participants through the design requirements for verge gardens to meet pedestrian safety and servicing obligations, as well as the ideal native plants choices for your verge garden.
The first of the demonstration verge gardens was planted this month with a working bee of eight UWG subcommittee and member volunteers.
Some of you may remember attending an Open Garden Tour in April 2023 when we visited Shaun Walsh’s Black Mountain property. I had an opportunity to see the garden again last month and was impressed with how well the garden had developed in less than two years. Shaun has also made some changes to the garden to accommodate the building of an outdoor kitchen and a covered pergola next to the pool.
The following article is an outline of some the best backyard native plants to attract wildlife in the Noosa Area. The list focuses on plants that are suited to the scale of urban backyards. It lists habitat species for common wildlife in Noosa but of course the list is not exhaustive and all local native plants are beneficial to wildlife.
