Our second Community workshop in partnership with Noosa Council was held at the J this month.
The two sessions were fully booked and the residents who turned up were enthusiastic and keen to find out how to turn their coastal gardens into havens for native wildlife.
Here in Southeast Queensland, we are lucky to have a region of diverse habitats which support hundreds of species of moths and butterflies both of which belong to the order of Lepidoptera, meaning ‘scaled wings’. Lepidoptera is one of the largest insect orders in the world with at least 160,000 species worldwide.
Last month Phil Moran delivered a fascinating and enlightening talk to both novices and those more informed about our local geology.
Our open garden visit this month was well attended despite the rainy weather. Those who had been to Shaun’s first open garden three years ago were amazed at the transformation. You can read how Shaun considered design concepts for his garden and see some early photos in the link.
We all know the familiar sound “click, click, click” in rapid succession, often heard but not seen from dawn until dusk, but once the bugs are out these nocturnal hunters are on the prowl and can become quite vocal and be a regular visitor to the patio, it is of course the Gecko!
